If you do not have the ceiling height to allow for a usable loft then there are solutions available that will still get your things off the ground that will not take up floor space. 

Suspended shelving is exactly what is sounds like.  A large shelf that is attached to the wall on the back edge and suspended along the front edge from the ceiling.  This works well in garages with ceilings that are less than 12 feet high.  The shelving can be up to 4 feet deep and span any length in your garage.  You will still have enough clearance to walk under the shelf comfortably and can even hang things like garden tools from the underside of the shelving.
